He was indignant with them.
Mark 10:13-16, And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples rebuked them. But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them.
One translation says that Jesus was “much displeased” at his disciples attempts to protect him from those bringing children to him. How easy it is for us to assume that we know the mind of Christ and miss what is important. The disciples didn’t think that the children, especially infants, could receive anything from Jesus, but he didn’t see it that way. And he also makes it clear that we must become like little children when we receive his kingdom!
Keep our hearts turned towards you, that we may know your mind in all things.
