They no longer dared to ask him any questions.
Luke 20:37-40, But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed, in the passage about the bush, where he calls the Lord the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. Now he is not God of the dead, but of the living, for all live to him.” Then some of the scribes answered, “Teacher, you have spoken well.” For they no longer dared to ask him any question.
The Sadducees came to Jesus asking him a question about the resurrection, something that they themselves did not even believe in! And he not only answers their question but clearly shows them from the scripture that the resurrection is real. In going to the cross, he is about to demonstrate the reality of the resurrection. And even now, those who asked him have nothing more to say. “The Lord is in his Holy temple; let all the earth keep silent before him.” “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” Is our faith grounded in the truth of scripture?
Open our eyes that we may see wonderful things in your word today, O Lord!
