He went out and wept bitterly.

Luke 22:60-62, And after an interval of about an hour still another insisted, saying, “Certainly this man also was with him, for he too is a Galilean.” But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are talking about.” And immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed. And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the saying of the Lord, how he had said to him, “Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times.” And he went out and wept bitterly.

Peter came to the end of his own strength, and he knew that Jesus knew it; in the eyes of the world his discipleship is over, his ministry thrown into the fire that warmed him. But Jesus had prayed for him, that his faith might not fail, and even prophesied that when he returned he would be able to strengthen his brothers. That’s the kind of love that we have in Jesus Christ; Peter who went away weeping bitterly, would soon be called back to the empty tomb: “Go tell my disciples and Peter.” Have we thanked the Lord today for the amazing grace and mercy that continues to sustain us even when we stumble and fail?

Thank you for your great mercy towards us in the cross to sustain us even when we stumble and fail!
