The defense.

Acts 22:1, “Brothers and fathers, hear the defense that I now make before you.”

Paul seizes the moment of his arrest and with the permission of the arresting tribune asks to speak to his people, his brothers in the flesh. He does this knowing by the Spirit that prison awaits him, and takes this as an opportunity to give his testimony to those whom he loves, no matter what their response. He no doubt knows the words of Isaiah and Jesus that they are “ever hearing and never understanding, ever seeing but never perceiving,” that they might turn and be saved. Paul gives his own testimony anyway, likely knowing that it will not go well. He is not ruled by fear, but by faith knowing his clear call is to preach the gospel! Are we as ready to make the most of every opportunity?

Give us this boldness to make the most of every opportunity to tell of your good news!
