When Paul first arrived in Ephesus, Jesus Christ the way, the truth and the life was of no threat to the local merchants making a good living from selling pagan idols. But so many had been called to life in Christ that the who economic fabric of the day was challenged, and a near riot resulted! Paul, ever ready to plunge into preaching the gospel if even to an angry mob, was restrained by other disciples and even local officials, the mob dismissed by the town clerk! We should not be surprised if the gospel of Christ causes a great disturbance today in our post-modern culture where, as in the days of the Judges of Israel, “each one did what was right in his own eyes.”
Give us this same boldness to preach your word and plant your churches, Lord Jesus!
