As we ought.

Romans 8:26, Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.

We may well think that we know what to pray for, but we have a very limited perspective. Unless the Holy Spirit gives us illumination, our prayers are usually directed towards a perceived benefit of a temporal nature. What a dilemma it is to ask in faith, not doubting and yet to recognize the God’s sovereignty will prevail, for he knows better than we what is best. And what an encouragement to know that we can ask in faith knowing that the Holy Spirit is interceding for us even in our ignorance and weakness!

We give thanks that we can pray in faith, believing that we have received, knowing that your Holy Spirit is interceding for us as we ought to pray!
