Nothing good dwells in me, that is my flesh.

Romans 7:18, For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out.

I am so thankful that the scripture is inspired, for Paul’s willingness to be real about his faith. He was sovereignly called to faith by the risen Lord Jesus Christ; he was caught up into a part of heaven and shown things that he could not even express. He wrote much of our New Testament, and here he shows that he is one of us, dragging around his sinful flesh. John also tells us that he who says he is without sin is a liar and truth is not in him! Paul brings us to the solution later in this passage, “Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

We give thanks also and practice what John tells us, that when we come to him confessing our sin he is faithful and just to forgive us our sin and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, leading us forth in triumphal procession!
