The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him.
John 4:46, So he came again to Cana in Galilee, where he had made the water wine. And at Capernaum there was an official whose son was ill. When this man heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went to him and asked him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. So Jesus said to him, “Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.” The official said to him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.” Jesus said to him, “Go; your son will live.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and went on his way.
Jesus challenged this official to walk by faith, and he believed Him. We face the same challenge, for we also like to see in order to believe. After the resurrection, Thomas had his crisis of faith, saying that unless he could see and touch the wounds of the nails and spear he would not believe. Yet upon seeing Him Thomas immediately received Him as “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” We who have not seen and yet believe are blessed!
We give thanks for the gift of faith, not of our own doing, it is the gift of God.
