Having followed all things closely.
Luke 1:1-4, Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the things that have been accomplished among us, just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word have delivered them to us, it seemed good to me also, having followed all things closely for some time past, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, that you may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught.
The reason for the season can easily be lost this time of year. Luke writes of the announcement by Gabriel, “sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news.” He speaks to the father of John, who would prepare the hearts of the people. John was filled with the Holy Spirit from conception to “make ready for the Lord a people prepared.” Luke writes as one who “followed all things closely for some time past,” like Peter who wrote “For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.” Take time to consider the true meaning of Christmas, Immanuel, “God with us!”
We thank You for those eyewitnesses who wrote that we may have certainty concerning God’s love for the world in sending His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ!
