“You must die!”
Jeremiah 26:8, When Jeremiah finished speaking all that the Lord had commanded him to speak to all the people, the priests and the prophets and all the people seized him, saying, “You must die!”
The northern kingdom has already been carried away and now the prophet speaks the truth to the people of Judah. But like the people of Nineveh God kept up His warnings because they might repent and come to their senses. Indeed the people of this time did and the life of the prophet was spared. In later years, one greater that the prophet Jeremiah came proclaiming that the Kingdom of God is at hand. He came not as a prophet but as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. This time the people’s shouted “Crucify Him!” and He went willingly “for the joy set before Him” to set us all free from the power of sin and death!
We thank You for your longsuffering lovingkindness, grace and mercy shown towards us in Jesus Christ, our Lord and our redeemer!
