“Prophets who prophesy falsehood.”
Jeremiah 23:23-31, “Am I a God who is near,” declares the Lord, “And not a God far off? Can a man hide himself in hiding places so I do not see him?” declares the Lord. “Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?” declares the Lord. “I have heard what the prophets have said who prophesy falsely in My name, saying, ‘I had a dream, I had a dream!’ How long? Is there anything in the hearts of the prophets who prophesy falsehood, even these prophets of the deception of their own heart, who intend to make My people forget My name by their dreams which they relate to one another, just as their fathers forgot My name because of Baal? The prophet who has a dream may relate his dream, but let him who has My word speak My word in truth. What does straw have in common with grain?” declares the Lord. Is not My word like fire?” declares the Lord, “and like a hammer which shatters a rock? Therefore behold, I am against the prophets,” declares the Lord, “who steal My words from each other. Behold, I am against the prophets,” declares the Lord, “who use their tongues and declare, ‘The Lord declares.’”
We have His word and it is more accessible than in any time in the history of the world. We have multiple Bibles in many homes, and multiple translations to help us understand the original intent of the language. We also have many people who never bother to read their Bibles and if they do read it they try to read it like the daily newspaper, something of passing interest soon to be forgotten. Paul advised us not to despise prophecy and to seek prophecy as the highest gift. He also tells us to test prophecy against the gold standard as did the Berean believers, to search the Bible to see whether these things might be true. Are we spending time in truly reading and searching His marvelous word that we can so easily hold in our hands and read every day?
Thank You for the amazing gift of the Bible that is the word of God! Bring Your wisdom and understanding to us each day as we read, study, memorize and search Your Holy scripture to make us complete as your man or woman of God!
