The interests of others.

Philippians 2:1-4, If therefore there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind let each of you regard one another as more important than himself; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.

The idea of selfless service runs counter to our culture of winning at any cost. Jesus came in the flesh as the suffering servant. In the eyes of the world this is foolishness; yet in it He demonstrated God’s love for all of us. On the night He was betrayed, He who could have laid claim to be the king of all the universe washed the feet of His own disciples and told them to go and do likewise. Those who have followed Him have indeed changed this world as suffering servants.

We love You, Lord; humble us to consider others as more important than ourselves that we may look after their interests.
