A stumbling block in a brother’s way.

Romans 14:13-15, Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather determine this—not to put an obstacle or a stumbling block in a brother’s way. I know and am convinced in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself; but to him who thinks anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean. For if because of food your brother is hurt, you are no longer walking according to love. Do not destroy with your food him for whom Christ died.

The idea here is simple: to consider others and not use our own freedom in ways that might hurt them. In Paul’s day there was an issue about eating food that had been used as a sacrifice to idols; today it might be about something else. We have incredible freedom in the grace of the Lord Jesus. He has given us His Holy Spirit to convict us of sin, and to give us wise counsel. I also want to be sensitive to others who may not have the same level of faith about what is clean and unclean!

Thank You for the freedom that we have in You, O Lord, let me never put an obstacle in another’s way.
