Stricter judgment.

James 3:1-2, Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we shall incur a stricter judgment. For we all stumble in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body as well.

In working with children, I am very much aware of how careful I have to be with my tongue. It seems that they will instantly memorize the worst things that we casually toss off, and learning something of spiritual benefit comes harder! I have to build better habits during the times when I am not with them, to continue to clean up my speech, to recognize that “people are important,” that we will give account for every idle word.

Lord, help me to consider every word a prayer; to bring forth words as fresh, living water, even when no one else is around, yes even on the freeway!
