And they did not receive Him.
Luke 9:53-56, And they did not receive Him, because He was journeying with His face toward Jerusalem. And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, "Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them?" But He turned and rebuked them, and said, "You do not know what kind of spirit you are of; for the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them." And they went on to another village.
It seems that this same spirit is still around; it's somehow easier to classify others according to our own perceived rules of behavior. Scripture tells us clearly that God loved the world enough to send us His only begotten Son. Scripture is very clear that He did this even though we were dead in our sin and trespasses, that without Christ we have a debt we can never pay. What could happen in the world when we see others with His compassion? We know that before He was betrayed, upon seeing the city of Jerusalem, He wept over it. He sees those who do not know Him with ultimate compassion, can we see them with His eyes?
We humbly thank You for saving us, for opening our eyes to Your great gift; help us to see others with Your compassion, praying that they may come to know You as Lord and Savior!
