"Behold, The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world."

John 1:29-30, The next day he saw Jesus coming to him, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! This is He on behalf of whom I said, 'After me comes a Man who has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.'"

This might seem to contradict what we read in the other gospels, for we know that John’s mother was with child before Mary. John recognizes Jesus as the One through whom all things were created, the One who came to His own who did not recognize Him. John joins with Isaiah in calling Jesus the Lamb of God, but even he did not recognize Him until the Father told him to look for the Spirit descending upon Him as a dove. People today have all kinds of ideas about who Jesus is, but here we have it: "Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world."

We worship You with thanksgiving O Lord, for cleansing and empowering us!
