"Is this not the fast which I choose?"
Isaiah 58:6-8, "Is this not the fast which I choose, to loosen the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, and to let the oppressed go free, and break every yoke? Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into the house; when you see the naked, to cover him; and not to hide yourself from your own flesh? Then your light will break out like the dawn, and your recovery will speedily spring forth; and your righteousness will go before you; the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard."
It seems that the nation had forgotten the reason for a fast-- that it was not just for show before the Lord. It’s easy to fall into habits; especially habits that we think are pleasing to the Lord. He wants us to remember the purpose behind our actions, to be looking for ways to bring His light to this dark world. Jesus revealed His heart in His parable of "The Good Samaritan." It’s easy to catch ourselves asking, "Who is my neighbor?" Are we willing to take action?
Give us Your divine provision in providing for our neighbors, we need Your help O Lord!
