Jesus on his part did not entrust himself to them.

John 2:23-25, Now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many believed in his name when they saw the signs that he was doing. But Jesus on his part did not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people and needed no one to bear witness about man, for he himself knew what was in man.

Jesus knew the heart of fallen man as given by the prophet Jeremiah, “the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?” He understands our hearts, even better than we do. Even though there were those who believed in his name, their faith was not genuine. He knows that “my sheep hear my voice,” and knows that he will not lose even one whom the Father has called. We need access to this same discernment in this world today and he gives us his Holy Spirit as our counselor. Do we trust in our own understanding or do we trust in him?

Remind us to pause to listen for your counsel with everyone, to see others as you see them!
