Proclaiming.
Luke 3:1-3, In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene, during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the wilderness. And he went into all the region around the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.
Luke set out to accurately trace down all things “that have been accomplished among us,” and he gives us amazing detail about Jesus, his life and his ministry. John came to prepare the way of the Lord, to call attention to the need to turn from sin and towards righteousness. We live in a time of denial that there is even such a thing as sin, and a time when each one does what is right in his own eyes. Perhaps we will have an opportunity to lift up Jesus Christ during this time of year, for who he is and what he has done for us on the cross. As we lift him up, others may come to know him as more than a babe in the manger: as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords!
Give us opportunities to lift up Jesus as King during this season!
