And he begged him earnestly.

Mark 5:7-10, And crying out with a loud voice, he said, “What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I adjure you by God, do not torment me.” For he was saying to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!” And Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” He replied, “My name is Legion, for we are many.” And he begged him earnestly not to send them out of the country.

Our pastor observed that Hollywood gets this completely wrong; there is no great battle of power between good and evil. The power of evil is broken and begging in the presence of Jesus; he is sovereign over all. The great hymn of Martin Luther sees this sovereignty of God as a mighty fortress and proclaims his power: “One little word shall fell him.” Jesus Christ, “in the beginning was the word, and the word was with God and the word was God.”

No matter what comes our way we put our trust in your sovereign saving grace that we have been given by faith.
