Anger, grieved.

Mark 3:2-5, And they watched Jesus, to see whether he would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse him. And he said to the man with the withered hand, “Come here.” And he said to them, “Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to kill?” But they were silent. And he looked around at them with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart, and said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was restored.

We don’t associate Jesus with anger; his anger was also mixed with grief over those who did not understand that it is we who need the Sabbath. They sought to please God by keeping meticulous rules over what was allowed and not allowed. It is we who need to take advantage of the day of rest! And keeping the rules does not impress God. When will we be able to rest in the compassion he offers us and seek to know him better thereby

Thank you for your great mercy toward us that we may rest in your compassion for us; reveal yourself as we rest in you!
