That the Son may glorify you.

John 17:1-5, When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed.”

The cross hardly seems to fit with the glory Jesus had with the father, yet he has already said that is for this purpose he came to the world. We are to look to Jesus, “the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” What the world considers to be folly, we who are being saved see the power of God! Even when there is hostility and suffering, God is glorified.

Give us your perspective on all that we do and say to bring glory to your name, O Lord.
