“I will most gladly spend and be spent for your souls.”

2 Corinthians 12:14-15, Here for the third time I am ready to come to you. And I will not be a burden, for I seek not what is yours but you. For children are not obligated to save up for their parents, but parents for their children. I will most gladly spend and be spent for your souls. If I love you more, am I to be loved less?

Paul was obviously dealing with severe critics in the church at Corinth. It is amazing that there are those who seem driven to create strife, even in the church. He has the view of a spiritual father; having seen them come to faith in Christ he wants the best for them. We know that there are those who pretend to be spiritual who can stir up gossip and strife. We must all be on guard not to be drawn in by them and guard our own tongue lest we become unwilling participants in spreading their strife. Our spiritual leaders deserve better than this. What if people spent as much time praying for their leaders as they do participating in gossip?

We pray for those who are leading us; protect and guide them as they equip us for building Your kingdom!
