Woe to him.
Habakkuk 2:18-20, “What profit is the idol when its maker has carved it, or an image, a teacher of falsehood? For its maker trusts in his own handiwork when he fashions speechless idols. Woe to him who says to a piece of wood, ‘Awake!’ to a dumb stone, ‘Arise!’ and that is your teacher? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all inside it. But the LORD is in His holy temple. Let all the earth be silent before Him.”
The prophet issues warnings that are summarized here: what do we lift up in place of glorifying God? What do we love in this temporary world more than Him? This weekend we visited our son and spent two nights in a hotel. Sunday morning we had just wakened when a terrific noise began, clearly a fire alarm. Had we not been prepared with immediate access to that which was most important, we could not have made a quick exit. Sadly, we were the only ones who listened to the alarm and no one else came outside into the parking lot. Our culture has become deaf to the warnings! Are there those whose hearts He is preparing that we might meet today?
We want to bring Your good news to others whose heart You have prepared today, O Lord! Thank You for using us in Your plans!
