My advocate.
Job 16:22-17:1, My face is flushed from weeping, and deep darkness is on my eyelids, although there is no violence in my hands, and my prayer is pure. O earth, do not cover my blood, and let there be no resting place for my cry. Even now, behold, my witness is in heaven, and my advocate is on high. My friends are my scoffers; my eye weeps to God. O that a man might plead with God as a man with his neighbor! For when a few years are past, I shall go the way of no return. My spirit is broken, my days are extinguished, the grave is ready for me.
Job knows that he has an advocate in heaven, and we know even more. Jesus has sent us His Holy Spirit, our advocate, to live in us. He is our helper and intercessor, even when we don’t know how to pray. Even when we have trouble, He is with us and wants us to bear His fruit. Job assumes too much, that he is beyond hope and that he is headed for the grave. Yet God has something more in store for him!
We thank You that You are in control; fill us with Your Holy Spirit and guide us today and let us bear Your fruit of love, joy, peace, longsuffering, faithfulness, gentleness and kindness.
