Even as a father, the son in whom he delights.

Proverbs 3:11-12, My son, do not reject the discipline of the Lord, or loathe His reproof, for whom the Lord loves He reproves, even as a father, the son in whom he delights.

I agree with the writer of Hebrews, that “all discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful.” He is also right in that “Afterwards, it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness.” And likewise, no one really likes to be reproved, even gently and with kindness! Yet it is His love for us that brings His discipline and reproof, and we can know beyond a shadow of a doubt that He really does delight in us.

We thank You for Your love for us that is demonstrated in discipline and reproof; open our ears to hear the way that we should walk in it, Lord.
