I found mercy.

1 Timothy 1:15-16, It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all. And yet for this reason I found mercy, in order that in me as the foremost, Jesus Christ might demonstrate His perfect patience, as an example for those who would believe in Him for eternal life.

Paul had his own reasons for knowing that he was foremost among sinners. As we come near to God, into His light, He reveals our great need for this same mercy. Even if our past is not reason enough, it is as Jonathon Edwards says, that which we are capable of: “you know there is no criminal who is half so bad in actuality as you know yourself to be in possibility.” He loves us just as we are, with all our capabilities, past, present and future.

We thank You for Your amazing grace, Your mercies that are new every morning through Jesus Christ.
