Wanting to have their ears tickled.
2 Timothy 4:3-5, For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires; and will turn away their ears from the truth, and will turn aside to myths. But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
We certainly know that many people today want to find their own teachers only to please their own desires. Paul doesn’t leave that as an excuse, and we are seeing this truth fulfilled today. When the word of God, “sharper than a two edged sword,” is preached, people want to hear it; people are drawn to it. His word doesn’t need to be modified in order to please today’s listeners. The truth and power of God stand forever.
We thank You that when You are lifted up You draw all people to Yourself Lord Jesus.
