We also exult in our tribulation.

Romans 5:3-6, And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.

Too many times the Christian walk is marketed as a solution to all of our problems; Paul gives us the truth, that along with the grace of Almighty God comes tribulation. It’s not a matter of if that will happen, it’s a matter of when it will happen. I’m reading a book now that tells of the horrific persecution suffered by Christians in another region of the world; against the stark background of the fear of being caught in worship is the dramatic moving of the Holy Spirit to draw His own to Him. I recall reading a quote from a Siberian monk, paraphrased, that the deeper the darkness of the winter night the brighter the stars shine!

Prepare our hearts for all that You have for us, Lord Jesus, for all our hope is in You, let us bring Your light into the darkness today!
