Momentary, light affliction.
2 Corinthians 4:16-18, Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
Paul speaks of the blessing of seeing others come to know Christ through his own faith, carried out in speaking out for Christ. Later in this letter he gives more detail about his “momentary, light affliction,” which would include lots of hard labor, imprisonment, beatings, in danger of death, whippings, beatings with rods, stoning, shipwrecks, dangers, sleeplessness, hungry and thirsty, homeless. Personally, I get irritated at not being able to find a parking space! I love the idea from Chesterton, that “An adventure is only an inconvenience rightly considered, an inconvenience is only an adventure wrongly considered.”
Thank You for the great adventure that we have in You, for using us in Your amazing plan today, Lord!
