Like an emerald in appearance.

Revelation 4:2-3, Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne was standing in heaven, and One sitting on the throne. And He who was sitting was like a jasper stone and a sardius in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, like an emerald in appearance.

John describes what he sees in the terms of precious stones, something that we see as rare and having an other world beauty that is beyond human description or comprehension. When we look into a jasper or emerald stone, it is a glimpse of another world! I always love the look of the spring time trees in the forest behind our house; I have described it as being inside an emerald. The scene John describes for us is the very throne room of heaven, something we all have to look forward to. Imagine those who have gone before us joining in the Heavenly chorus, "Holy, Holy, Holy!"

We thank You for this glimpse of Your glory, a description which no doubt pales before the reality of Your throne room!
