Ruler and redeemer.
Acts 7:33-37, Then the Lord said to him, ‘Take off the sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground. I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt, and have heard their groaning, and I have come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send you to Egypt.’ “This Moses, whom they rejected, saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge?’—this man God sent as both ruler and redeemer by the hand of the angel who appeared to him in the bush. This man led them out, performing wonders and signs in Egypt and at the Red Sea and in the wilderness for forty years. This is the Moses who said to the Israelites, ‘God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brothers.’
Scripture tells us over and over how the chosen nation rejected the leaders and prophets whom God sent. The generation that saw the amazing miracles that led to their ejection from Egypt quickly turned to a golden calf of their own making and later rejected the opportunity to take possession of the promised land. Moses spoke of a prophet who would come, for he was only a faint foreshadow of the one of whom he spoke! And like their forefathers, the nation rejected the only begotten Son and crucified him, which amazingly fulfills God’s plan to rescue us! For good news has now come to all the nations by what Jesus has done on the cross!
Give us this day our daily bread and let us go forth to share what we have found in your gospel that has so transformed our own lives!
