God chose what is low low and despised.

1 Corinthians 1:26-31, For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”

Jesus told His disciples that it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God. And perhaps the same thing applies to those impressed with their own worldly wisdom? When the disciples asked “Then who can be saved,” He says “With man it is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God.” Our nature is to lean on our own understanding and many find it too humiliating to recognize that on our own we cannot ever be good enough before a Holy God. Only by His calling and His gift through the cross can we be in Christ Jesus, who became to us everything that we need to be in God’s presence forever.

We boast only in You and Your amazing grace for us in Christ Jesus!
