Immorality among you.

1 Corinthians 5:1-2, It is actually reported that there is immorality among you, and immorality of such a kind as does not exist even among the Gentiles, that someone has his father’s wife. And you have become arrogant, and have not mourned instead, in order that the one who had done this deed might be removed from your midst.

Paul is not referring to those seeking Christ who might walk through the door of a church building; he is addressing those who have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and savior. As beliers we are to hold each other accountable and to speak the truth in love, first in private and according to the order of scripture, if the person is unwilling to listen. It is when we don’t do this in churches that problems really result, where open immorality of professed believers will grow like a cancer and consume the body of Christ, the church. While most of us would not enjoy hold another accountable, the stakes are too high not to follow Paul’s advice.

Give us Your wisdom that we might turn another who is caught in a trespass from sin and restore him in a spirit of gentleness, to bring glory to Your name!
