Put away all malice.

1 Peter 2:1-3, So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander. Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation— if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good.

He doesn’t say put away some malice, deceit and hypocrisy, but all of it. We have been born again, and like James asks regarding the tongue, “Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and salt water?” We have been born again of the spirit, and only by His power can we do this. Jesus said it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth that defiles, for it comes from the heart. Are craving His pure spiritual milk that we may grow up into salvation?

Change my heart, O God; for I have tasted that You are good!
