Why hast Thou forsaken me?

Psalm 22:1-5, My God, my God, why hast Thou forsaken me? Far from my deliverance are the words of my groaning. O my God, I cry by day, but Thou dost not answer; and by night, but I have no rest. Yet Thou art holy, O Thou who art enthroned upon the praises of Israel. In Thee our fathers trusted; they trusted, and Thou didst deliver them. To Thee they cried out, and were delivered; in Thee they trusted, and were not disappointed.

These words given to David by inspiration of the Holy Spirit were taken up as Jesus was lifted up on the cross. Job declared that even if God were to slay him, he would trust in Him. Any of us who follow Him by faith can be subject to this lament, for faith is not about our condition or our feelings but what He has done for us on the cross. No matter what happens, even in our laments to Him, we know that we can trust in Him and never be disappointed.

We trust in You no matter what happens in this life, O Lord, our God and our redeemer!
