They offered strange fire before the Lord.

Numbers 3:1-4, Now these are the records of the generations of Aaron and Moses at the time when the LORD spoke with Moses on Mount Sinai. These then are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab the first-born, and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the anointed priests, whom he ordained to serve as priests. But Nadab and Abihu died before the LORD when they offered strange fire before the LORD in the wilderness of Sinai; and they had no children. So Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests in the lifetime of their father Aaron.

We live in an age of God’s grace and mercy by the power of all that Christ has done for us. It’s easy to lose sight of His power, judgment and holiness. Aaron’s sons thought that they could approach Him on their own terms with “strange fire,” and were consumed. He has given us Jesus as “the way, the truth and the life.” No one comes to the Father but by Him!

We thank You that we can come boldly to You by faith in Jesus Christ.
