"I am."
John 8:56-59, “Your father Abraham rejoiced that he would see my day. He saw it and was glad.” So the Jews said to him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?” Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.” So they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple.
Jesus makes it crystal clear who He is by saying that He has seen Abraham and by claiming that “I am,” the word full of meaning to the rulers. He exists from before time to past the end of time! And the rulers clearly understood His intent, for they intended to stone Him for claiming equality with God. He is far more than a prophet, or a teacher, He is King of King and Lord of Lords, redeemer of the world!
We join with Abraham by faith from this side of the cross, knowing that You have done what no mortal could ever do on the cross to redeem us, to set us free and now to empower us by Your Holy Spirit!
