The Lamb of God.

John 1:29-31, The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.’ I myself did not know him, but for this purpose I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel.”

We see a shadow in the Passover, the blood of a lamb which kept away the destroyer from the firstborn children of Israel in Egypt. The blood of lambs, bulls and goats could only foreshadow the one true sacrifice. He who is the light of the world came for this reason, to satisfy the justice of God. People sometimes wonder why God doesn’t do something about evil, and this is the answer from inspired scripture, “This is how we know what love is; Jesus Christ lay down His life for us!”

We thank You for Your great love for us that You who are the Alpha and the Omega came to take away the sin of the world!
