Overcome evil with good.

Romans 12:17-21, Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

I know that on my own, I will not be able to do this, for when I am struck I want to strike back. I wish I could say that I never do that, but along with Paul I don’t do what I know is right, I do the things that I don’t want to do! And especially when there are repeated evil attacks by someone do I find it even more difficult. We see Jesus who was reviled without cause, who healed the ear of one of the servants at His arrest and who forgave even those who were so cruel with His word from the cross, “Forgive them, for they know not what they do.” Only by the power of His Spirit can I do what is written here. Am I willing to ask the Lord to show me how I can overcome evil with good?

I know that I am weak, but You are strong; give me insight by Your Spirit how to overcome evil with good even when the evil is so pervasive!
