Humble yourselves.

1 Peter 5:5-7, Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

Jesus showed His own great humility not only in setting aside His glory to be born as one of us, but also in washing the feet of His disciples, taking the role of the most humble servant. He challenged their own view of the world in answering their desire for power in saying that the greatest among you will be the servant of all. We who are blessed with elders who believe and live in this way should remember to pray for them and join them in humble submission to each other and to the Lord. And the good news is that we can cast all of our cares upon Him who cares for us, no matter what happens!

We pray for our elders, and thank You that we can cast all of our cares upon You, O Lord!
