A prophet has no honor in his own hometown.

John 4:43-45, After the two days he departed for Galilee. (For Jesus himself had testified that a prophet has no honor in his own hometown.) So when he came to Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him, having seen all that he had done in Jerusalem at the feast. For they too had gone to the feast.

Matthew tells us that they took offense at Him in His own hometown, and that “he did not do many mighty works there, because of their unbelief.” They knew His family and His place in life, “Is this not the carpenter’s son?” Their own ideas took precedence over who He is. How easy it is for us to do the same thing, to be overly familiar, to define Him in our own terms! Or have we replaced Him with our own little plastic idol?

Open our eyes to see You as You are revealed to us in scripture; we want to know You, to worship You in spirit and in truth!
