Called by Your name, O Lord God of hosts.
Jeremiah 15:15-16, You who know, O Lord, remember me, take notice of me, And take vengeance for me on my persecutors. Do not, in view of Your patience, take me away; Know that for Your sake I endure reproach. Your words were found and I ate them, And Your words became for me a joy and the delight of my heart; For I have been called by Your name, O Lord God of hosts.
Jeremiah did not take the seemingly easy approach of his detractors, to ignore the word of the Lord and to proclaim evil to be good and good to be evil. There are places in the world today where believers in Christ are persecuted, punished and even put to death for their faith. We see and end to religious freedom coming in other countries by making it illegal to discuss certain scriptures and to call sin what it is: sin. Even so, in his day Jeremiah was faithful as the Lord’s prophet and so must we be. The gospel of Jesus Christ is spreading like a fire in those places where there is real persecution!
We who are called by Your name need Your strength for our own time; thank You for the power of Your Holy Spirit that we may be used “for such a time as this.”
