The hand of the Lord is mighty.

Joshua 4:19-5:1, Now the people came up from the Jordan on the tenth of the first month and camped at Gilgal on the eastern edge of Jericho. And those twelve stones which they had taken from the Jordan, Joshua set up at Gilgal. And he said to the sons of Israel, “When your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, ‘What are these stones?’ then you shall inform your children, saying, ‘Israel crossed this Jordan on dry ground.’ For the LORD your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you until you had crossed, just as the LORD your God had done to the Red Sea, which He dried up before us until we had crossed; that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of the LORD is mighty, so that you may fear the LORD your God forever.” Now it came about when all the kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan to the west, and all the kings of the Canaanites who were by the sea, heard how the LORD had dried up the waters of the Jordan before the sons of Israel until they had crossed, that their hearts melted, and there was no spirit in them any longer, because of the sons of Israel.

The miracle of the waters was a sign to build their faith that the Lord was with them and moving in power as He did before at the Red Sea. The fear of the Lord came upon their enemies to cause them to lose heart. And the fear of the Lord was there for the nation as well, that they would see His power on their behalf. The fear of the Lord for believers is that of respect for Him, for His Holiness, His power and His sovereignty, that we might not miss out on all that He is doing!

We thank You for Your awesome power on our behalf that we may know that You are able prevail over any enemy!
