Would that all the Lord’s people were prophets.

Numbers 11:26-30, But two men had remained in the camp; the name of one was Eldad and the name of the other Medad. And the Spirit rested upon them (now they were among those who had been registered, but had not gone out to the tent), and they prophesied in the camp. So a young man ran and told Moses and said, “Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.” Then Joshua the son of Nun, the attendant of Moses from his youth, answered and said, “Moses, my lord, restrain them.” But Moses said to him, “Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the Lord’s people were prophets, that the Lord would put His Spirit upon them!”

The burden of a complaining people brought Moses to recognize that he needed help, and the Lord graciously took of the Spirit He had placed upon Moses and put it on seventy of the elders. Moses recognized the great gift as coming from the Lord, not from being in the right place or the proper ceremony. And we can give thanks for his desire to see the Lord’s Spirit upon all the people. For He has sent us His Holy Spirit, the comforter, our advocate, our defender to live in us and empower us to do all that He asks us to do!

Come, Holy Spirit, for I know that it is not by my own power that I can do anything; I need You today!
