Not by might shall a man prevail.

1 Samuel 2:9-10, “He keeps the feet of His godly ones, but the wicked ones are silenced in darkness; for not by might shall a man prevail. Those who contend with the LORD will be shattered; against them He will thunder in the heavens, the LORD will judge the ends of the earth; and He will give strength to His king, and will exalt the horn of His anointed.”

We are enamored of the strength of a man, just look at the money and attention lavished upon athletes, or the popularity of fictional superheroes like Superman. Only a true atheist would be so foolish as to contend with God, creator of heaven and earth and life. Yet Almighty God loved this world and its broken people so much that He sent His Son to us in the flesh who gave up His life to rescue us. We who know Him must join with Hannah in praise of Him!

Indeed, Lord, my heart exults in You, and I rejoice in Your salvation!
