Slander.

1 Peter 2:1-3, Therefore, putting aside all malice and all guile and hypocrisy and envy and all slander, like newborn babes, long for the pure milk of the word, that by it you may grow in respect to salvation, if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord.

Somehow we want to skip ahead to the last part about longing for the pure milk of the word. It’s good to long for the word, but most of us could do far better at putting aside this list, and especially slander. It’s somehow in vogue to talk about others who are not present; what would happen if instead we applied what we read in scripture and used the same time to pray for others?

Check me when I start down these roads of malice, guile, hypocrisy, envy and slander; fill me to overflowing with the pure milk of Your word today, Lord.
