Humility of mind.
Philippians 2:3-4, Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind let each of you regard one another as more important than himself; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.
Our culture says to look out for number one, go for it, take no prisoners, live like there’s no tomorrow. Jesus has another way, the way of the cross; He who humbled Himself and came as a servant to all has shown us that His way is better. We are inclined, even habituated, to seeing ourselves as important and essential. He encourages us to server others, to do unto others as we would have them do unto us. This is not only difficult, it is impossible without Him!
Come, Lord Jesus; I know that I cannot do this on my own. Show me how to serve others with Your love; to look out not only for my own interests, but also for the interests of others.
