By what power?

Acts 4:7-12, And when they had placed them in the center, they began to inquire, "By what power, or in what name, have you done this?" Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Rulers and elders of the people, if we are on trial today for a benefit done to a sick man, as to how this man has been made well, let it be known to all of you, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by this name this man stands here before you in good health. He is the STONE WHICH WAS REJECTED by you, THE BUILDERS, but WHICH BECAME THE VERY CORNER stone. And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved."

Jesus told them that this would happen, that when they stood accused before the authorities, that they should not worry about what to say, that the Holy Spirit would empower them. It’s not likely that many of us will be imprisoned and have to do stand before such powerful authorities, but we have the same Holy Spirit who is always there, ready to empower us and teach us what to say! He used Peter the fisherman, David the shepherd, Gideon threshing in a wine press, Moses in exile, Saul a persecutor, Deborah the Ephraimite, Mary Magdelene possessed by seven devils and many more; in Him we are all mighty men and women of God!

We thank You that it is not by power, nor by might, but by Your Spirit, as You have said, O Lord of Hosts!

I think Oswald Chambers daily reading August 10th, The Sacrament of the Saint, speaks to this in part. But not having much experience with missions, I don't know either. We see the value of opposition in the sports world with a Michael Jordan, who could easily score thousands of points in a game and be rather boring to watch; when faced with fomidable opposition he is amazing!
