Render to all what is due them.

Romans 13:6-7, For because of this you also pay taxes, for rulers are servants of God, devoting themselves to this very thing. Render to all what is due them: tax to whom tax is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.

I love Paul’s expansion of Jesus teaching about taxes: “Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s and unto God that which is God’s.” Paul views even government employees as servants of the living Almighty God, carrying out His will. We are blessed to live in a country where we can be involved in our own government, we should give thanks!

We thank You for the government You have allowed us to have, “of, for and by the people!” Give us wisdom in governing, O Lord.
